AcSOC Announces New Appointments

The Accounting Standards Oversight Council (AcSOC) is pleased to announce the following appointments and reappointments to the AcSOC.

Reappointed as AcSOC Vice Chair for a second two-year term ending on March 31, 2010:

The AcSOC is an independent body that oversees the activities of the Accounting Standards Board (AcSB) and Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB). Reporting to the public and consisting of up to 25 prominent business and government leaders, AcSOC brings a broad perspective to complex issues facing standard setters in both the private and public sectors. AcSOC supports the AcSB and the PSAB in setting accounting standards in Canada and in contributing to the development of internationally accepted accounting standards. AcSOC's responsibilities include appointing AcSB and PSAB members and providing input on strategic priorities. AcSOC members, many of whom represent particular constituencies, include regulators, investors and other users, preparers and auditors of financial reports.

AcSOC recently approved the following appointments to the AcSB.

Appointed for three-year terms commencing April 1, 2008:
  • Mike Barkwell, CA, Controller, Petro-Canada
  • Brian Drayton, FCA, Partner, Meyers Norris Penny LLP

The AcSB develops and establishes standards and guidance governing financial accounting and reporting in Canada for all types of profit-oriented enterprises and not-for-profit organizations.

AcSOC Announces New PSAB Members

AcSOC recently approved the following appointments to PSAB.

Appointed Vice Chair of PSAB for a one-year term commencing April 1, 2008:
  • John Wiersema, FCA, Deputy Auditor General of the Government of Canada
Appointed for three-year terms commencing April 1, 2008:
  • Mike Ferguson, CA, Auditor General of the Province of New Brunswick
  • Andrew Newman, CA, Partner, KPMG, LLP
  • Kim Sharman, CGA, Assistant Deputy Minister, Finance, of the Province of Manitoba

The PSAB establishes financial accounting and reporting standards for use by federal, provincial, territorial and local governments.
